Tips: How to use Have I Been Pwned?

A breach is a security incident in which data is intentionally or accidentally exposed to someone who should not have access to it. Have I Been Pwned? is a free service that allows you to enter your email address to see if it is connected to any publicly known data breaches and take appropriate action, like changing your password. 

How to use Have I Been Pwned?

  1. Go to the Have I Been Pwned website.
     
  2. Enter your email address into the search box, then click Check. 



     
  3. Review the results. If your email address was found in a breach, you will be given a summary of how many breaches your data was involved in. You will also be given the option to sign up for notifications when your email appears in future data breaches.



     
  4. Scroll down to view the list of specific sites, dates, and data exposed in each of the breaches. If interested, click View Details to see additional information on a specific breach, including recommended actions.
