Body

Overview

This document will walk you through the download and installation process of the software LabVIEW 2015.

Requirements

PC, Activation Key (provided), National Instruments account (you’ll be prompted to do this during set-up), internet browser, internet access, about 50 minutes of time.

Note: Although there is LabVIEW for Mac, Villanova does not license it. Only the PC version is provided through the Engineering Portal.

Instructions

  1. Navigate to the Engineering Portal at egrportal.villanova.edu and login.
  2. Expand ‘Software Download Links’ and click ‘Download’ for LabVIEW2015
  3. The software will automatically begin downloading and should take 10-15 minutes depending on your internet speed.
  4. Once finished downloading, open the Downloads folder in File Explorer to locate the .zip folder, which is labeled with the software name.
  5. Right-click on the folder and select ‘Extract All…’ then click ‘Extract’ to confirm.

  1. This may take a while (~15 mins). The extracted files will be placed in a folder with the same name as the .zip folder. You can speed up the extraction process by closing apps you are not using.
  2. Once the contents are extracted, navigate to the unzipped folder (this will appear as a normal folder icon without a zipper).
  3. Find ‘setup’ or ‘setup.exe’ and right-click, then select ‘Run as Administrator.’
  4. The app will prompt you to make changes to your device. Click ‘Yes’.
  5. The installer will open automatically.
    • Click ‘Next’ then, if not already selected, select ‘I have serial numbers for one or more products in this installer’ and ensure the checkbox is marked, as shown below:

  1. Click ‘Next’
  2. In the top box, enter the serial number M62X36358, then click ‘Add Serial Number’. It will automatically validate.
  3. Once validated, click ‘Next’.
  4. On the Licensed Product List window, ensure ‘LabVIEW’ is selected as shown below, then click ‘Next’.

  1. On the next screen, ensure the checkbox is marked, then click ‘Next’.
  2. The application will contact the update server and check for any available updates. If any updates are available, install them. Otherwise, click ‘Next’.
  3. Ensure the destination directory. Unless you prefer placing the program files to a specific folder location, keep the default installation location and click ‘Next’.
  4. You will be asked to accept the LabVIEW license agreements.
  5. Click ‘I accept the above 2 License Agreement(s),’ then hit ‘Next’
  6. You will be prompted to accept two additional agreements. Select ‘I accept’ again and click ‘Next’.
  7. On the next page, ensure the checkbox is marked to ‘Disable Windows Fast Startup,’ as shown below. Then hit ‘Next’ again.

  1. You will then be required to create a National Instruments (NI) User Account to activate Labview. Click ‘Create A New Account.’ This will open an account creation setup in your default web browser. Enter ‘Villanova University’ for ‘Company.’
  2. Once you create your account, return to the installer and enter your login. Then click ‘Next’
  3. Click ‘Next’ again. The selected programs will proceed to install. This may take another ~20 minutes.
  4. After the installations are complete, you may be prompted for package updates in a new window, including an installation for VIPM 2021.
    • If you are prompted for these updates, continue with updates and VIPM installation. Once you reach a prompt to restart your computer, click ‘No’ and return to the original LabVIEW2015 window, then click ‘Next’
    • If you are not prompted for updates, click ‘Next’
  5. Click ‘Next’ again and select ‘No, I do not want to participate in the NI Customer Experience Improvement Program,’ unless you do want to participate. Then hit ‘OK.’
  6. You will be asked whether you want the NI Update Service to periodically check for updates. Click ‘Yes’.

  1. Lastly, you will be asked to restart your computer before continuing installation. Click ‘Yes’ to restart.
  2. After restarting, the NI Update Service app should appear automatically if updates are needed. Open this and install all Critical Updates as shown below.

  1. You may be asked to accept several license agreements again. Click ‘Agree’ for these and continue until the updates install. This will take several minutes.
  2. Once the updates have installed, click ‘Finish’.
  3. You may be prompted to restart your computer again. Click ‘Yes’
  4. After restart, the NI Update Service will again open automatically. If no further updates are required, exit the app. Otherwise, repeat the above steps until no further updates remain.
  5. Finally, to access the application, simply search ‘LabVIEW’ in the Windows search and click on the NI LabVIEW 2014 SP1 application.
  6. Select ‘Launch LabVIEW’ to launch the application.
