Brightspace: Import or Copy Content into a Brightspace Course

This article outlines the course copy process for copying content from one Brightspace course to another, including Blackboard content that has already been imported into Brightspace by UTS.

Upload a Blackboard Course Package into Brightspace

Log in to Brightspace (https://brightspace.villanova.edu).
In Brightspace, enter the course where you would like to import the exported Blackboard course package. You can import into a live or upcoming course, or you can import into a Sandbox course.
Next, go to the Course Admin tab on the upper left side, then select the Import/Export/Copy Components tool.
On the Import/Export/Copy Components page, scroll down and select Import Components. Leave the default option From a course package selected then click Start.
In the Import Course Package window, upload the zip file that was created in the Blackboard course. Select one of two options:
- Import All Components – this option will copy all the items from the Blackboard course package into your course.
- Advanced Options – this option will allow you to select which items that you would like to import. (* we suggest this option as it provides more flexibility regarding the items that you can select).
The import process will continue as follows:
- In Step 1 of 5, the course package will begin to convert for import; this process will take several minutes. When the process is completed, click Continue.
- In Step 2 of 5, the package will be analyzed. Once completed, click Continue.
- In Step 3 of 5, select the components that you would like to import into your Brightspace course. Regarding Content, you can import all items or select individual items. Click Continue after you have selected the items.
- In Step 4 of 5, confirm your selection then click Continue.
- In the final step, the Import Course Package box will inform you of the status of the process. Upon receiving the message that the package was successfully imported, click View Content. Some reorganization may be required after the import has been completed.

Instructions

There are two ways to copy files from another Brightspace course. You can copy an entire Brightspace course into your current course. You can copy specific files/items (assignments, quizzes, etc.) from another Brightspace course.

Copy an Entire Course from Another Course in Brightspace

Enter the course that needs content copied into it. For example, if you are trying to copy your Spring course into your Fall course, you will need to complete this process from your Fall course.
At the top of your course page, from the blue course navigation bar, click Course Admin.
Under Site Resources, click Import/Export/Copy Components.
Select Copy Components from another Org Unit.
Click the gray button Search for offering.
A new window will open. Search for the course you need content from.
Select the course and then click the blue button Add Selected.
The page will now display the course you have selected under Course to Copy.
If you would like to copy the entire course, select the blue button Copy All Components. The copy may take several minutes to complete; do not navigate away from the page.

Copy Part of a Course from Another Course in Brightspace

If you would like to copy only part of the course, follow steps 1–9 in the section above, and then select the gray button Select Components.
This page contains a table that lists all components available in the course. Note: This table can be shown/hidden by clicking the link Show/hide the current course components. You do not need to view this table in order to complete a course copy.
All components that can be copied are listed. Select the parts of the course you wish to copy and click the blue button Continue.
Note: Many components allow you to select individual items, such as a single discussion or calendar item.
The next page will ask you to confirm your selections. You can also offset the associated dates and times of the selected components. This will adjust any due dates, or start/end dates, associated with that copied item. If there are no dates associated with the item or you do not wish to adjust the dates, you can simply leave blank.
Click the blue button Finish when done. Depending on the items selected, the copy may take several minutes to complete; do not navigate away from the page.
