Description
Windows Feature Pack Updates are major revisions to the Windows operating system that are released by Microsoft on a regular cadence.
Benefits & Features
- Adds new features and functionality
- Extends the lifecycle of the operating system, allowing security and bug fixes to be applied monthly
Audience
Faculty, Staff, and students who use a Villanova-issued Windows PC.
Experience
Feature Pack updates will be applied to Villanova-issued Windows devices on a routine basis. When UTS deploys one of these updates, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- You will need to restart your device after the feature pack applies. A notification similar to below will appear on your screen when your system is ready to be rebooted.

- The reboot cycle tends to be longer than typical monthly updates, taking anywhere from 15-40 minutes to complete.
- Your device requires enough free disk space to complete. If you do not have enough storage, you may see a screen pop up asking to free up disk space. Click the "Free Up Space" button next to the C: volume to free up storage on your system. Alternatively, you can run the Windows storage clean up tool following these instructions.
