Brightspace (Standard): Brightspace Roles - Guide for Faculty

Summary

Learn about roles that faculty will see and interact with in Brightspace supports teaching, learning, and course administration.

Body

Overview

Brightspace uses roles to determine what each person can see and do in a course. Roles are collections of permissions that define access to course tools, content, grading, and user management features. [1](https://community.d2l.com/brightspace/kb/articles/4451-about-roles-and-permissions)

While many roles exist for system administration and support, most faculty will only interact with a small set that supports teaching, learning, and course administration.

This guide highlights the roles most relevant to instructors and how they are typically used in a Brightspace course.

Requirements

No special requirements. If faculty are assigned as an Instructor to a course by the Office of the Registrar, then Faculty are automatically assigned the Instructor role in their Brightspace courses.
