Overview
A Mediasite vodcast is a MP4 video file you can download from an individual presentation. Downloading a vodcast allows you to save a local copy of the recording for offline viewing. This can be especially useful for reviewing lecture content, searching for key concepts, and creating study notes.
This article explains how students can download available Vodcasts from Mediasite presentations found on a channel page.
Before You Begin
📌Note: Vodcast downloads are only available when the presentation owner has enabled Vodcast access and downloads. If you do not see a Vodcast option, it may not be available for that recording.
Instructions
I. Open the Channel
1. Open the Mediasite channel link.
2. After the page loads, locate the video you need to download. If there are many videos, you may need to use the page navigation at the bottom of the screen.
II. Download the Vodcast
1. Click on the triple dots () in the lower right-hand corner of the player window, and select Download from the menu that pops up.
3. Next, click on the provided Vodcast (.mp4 Vodcast) hyperlink, and save the video file to your local device when prompted.
III. Open the Downloaded Video File
1. Open the Downloads folder on your device, or the folder where you saved your video file. If you're unsure, reopen your web browser and navigate to the Downloads section to see where it was saved.
2. Open the saved video file with your preferred media player.
Known Issues & Troubleshooting
- I do not see an option to Download a Vodcast: This can happen if access has not been enabled by the content owner. Try refreshing the webpage or reopening the presentation in another supported browser (list here). If this still doesn't work, contact the content owner to inquire if a Podcast needs to be enabled at the presentation or channel level.
- The video file downloaded but will not open: Try opening the file with a different media player, and/or saving and downloading the video file again. Confirm that the download completed successfully and wasn't interrupted or canceled.
- The downloaded layout looks different from the Mediasite player: If your presentation contains both screen sharing and camera video, the downloaded MP4 will combine those feeds into a single side-by-side video. Interactive switching between views is only available when viewing the presentation within Mediasite.
