Body
When a vendor requires remote connectivity to troubleshoot, maintain, or support a University system, to comply with the Vendor Remote Access standard, use the least persistent method of access that allows the work to be completed. The preferred methods for vendor remote connectivity, in order, are:
- Screen sharing during a Zoom or Microsoft Teams session
- Vendor VPN access
Screen sharing through a Zoom or Microsoft Teams session is the preferred method.
Vendor VPN access should be used when screen sharing does not meet the technical requirements of the support activity.
Requirements
- A defined business or technical need for the vendor to remotely support a University system.
- Use the preferred connectivity methods in the order listed in this article.
Instructions
- Use screen sharing first.
- Establish a Zoom or Microsoft Teams session with the vendor.
- Use screen sharing to allow the vendor to assist with the support or troubleshooting activity.
- If screen sharing provides sufficient access to complete the work, do not establish vendor VPN connectivity.
- Use Vendor VPN when direct remote connectivity is required.
- If the required support activity cannot be completed through screen sharing, a sponsored account will be required for the vendor to connect. Once the sponsored account is created, the vendor can use Vendor VPN as the next preferred connectivity method.
- Limit VPN use to the vendor support activity for which remote connectivity is required.
