Overview
Use this article if you already have a personal ChatGPT account and are having trouble accessing Villanova University's ChatGPT Edu service.
Many ChatGPT users have more than one ChatGPT account or workspace. For example, you may have:
- A personal ChatGPT account using a personal email address (such as Gmail or Outlook)
- A personal ChatGPT account using a Villanova email address
- A Villanova-managed ChatGPT Edu account
If you can sign in to ChatGPT but do not see the Villanova ChatGPT Edu workspace, the issue is often caused by signing in with a different ChatGPT account than the one associated with your Villanova Edu access.
Troubleshooting Steps
My personal ChatGPT account uses firstname.lastname@villanova.edu
If your personal ChatGPT account was created using your firstname.lastname@villanova.edu email address, sign out of ChatGPT and sign in again using your Villanova username account (username@villanova.edu).
- Sign out of ChatGPT.
- Close all ChatGPT browser tabs.
- Open ChatGPT again.
- Sign in using username@villanova.edu.
- Complete Villanova Single Sign-On (SSO) authentication if prompted.
After signing in, you should be placed into the Villanova ChatGPT Edu workspace.
My personal ChatGPT account uses username@villanova.edu
If your personal ChatGPT account uses username@villanova.edu, you may have access to both a Personal workspace and the Villanova ChatGPT Edu workspace within the same account.
- Sign in to ChatGPT.
- Select your profile picture or account icon.
- Review the list of available workspaces.
- Select the Villanova ChatGPT Edu workspace.
ChatGPT keeps Personal and Edu workspaces separate. Switching workspaces does not move conversations, files, or settings between them.
I can sign in to ChatGPT, but I do not see the Villanova Edu workspace
- Verify you are signed in using username@villanova.edu.
- Sign out and sign back in.
- Check your profile menu for available workspaces.
- If the Villanova ChatGPT Edu workspace is still unavailable, contact the Service Desk.
How do I know which ChatGPT account I am using?
Select your profile picture or account icon in ChatGPT to view the account currently signed in. If the displayed email address is not username@villanova.edu, sign out and sign back in using your Villanova username account.
Some users may have previously merged a personal workspace into an organizational workspace. If this occurred, a separate personal workspace may no longer be available.
