Mediasite: Create your account

Overview

This article provides a guide on how to create a new Mediasite account through MyMediasite, Mediasite's user portal for creating and managing content. Access to a majority of of Villanova's video content is hosted through Mediasite and requires a validated Mediasite account.

 

Prerequisites

  • You must be a current Villanova student, faculty, or staff member with a valid Villanova University-issued email address
  • Since this process requires passing through Villanova University's single sign-on, please have your mobile device handy for a possible Duo push notification. For more details on multi-factor authentication (MFA) and Duo, please refer to "Duo: Getting Started".

 

Instructions

1. Open a new internet browser window and navigate to the MyMediasite portal: https://vums-web.villanova.edu/mediasite/mymediasite/

2. Log in through Villanova's single sign-on by entering your current Villanova email address and password.

3. Your Mediasite account will be automatically created after logging in, allowing you to begin viewing and creating Mediasite content.

4. (optional) If you'd like to make further adjustments to your Mediasite profile information (e.g., preferred display name, email notifications), please refer to "Mediasite: Update your Mediasite user profile settings".

 

Verification/Expected Result

If your account has been successfully created, when you navigate to MyMediasite, you will see the homepage below:

 

Troubleshooting

If you have successfully created your Mediasite account but are still having trouble viewing Mediasite content, please follow these troubleshooting steps. If, after trying all the troubleshooting options offered, you're still unable to view Mediasite content, please submit a support ticket to the Multimedia Technologies team.

  • Does your device meet the minimum requirements for viewing Mediasite content? To get the best Mediasite experience, your device must meet the requirements listed on the vendor's website under, "Viewing Mediasite Presentations: Requirements".
  • Is the presentation unlocked? You may not be able to view a Mediasite recording because it hasn't been shared with you. Please confirm that the video owner has correctly opened it for viewing. For more details, please refer to, "Mediasite: Share a presentation".
  • Have you cleared your browser cookies and cache? Internet browsers save old versions of pages and data to improve performance. By clearing this old data, you force the browser to download fresh versions of the page, ensuring the latest settings, content, and functionalities are loaded correctly.   • Are you following a Mediasite link posted to an LMS course page? Sometimes, passing from Blackboard or Brightspace into Mediasite can cause your Mediasite account to be signed out. If you can copy the Mediasite video link itself, paste it into a new internet browser tab, and click "Enter" you should be returned through Villanova's single sign-on and have access to view the video.
