STATA Installation Instructions for PC

Overview

This document will walk you through the installation process for Stata on Windows.

Requirements

Computer with Windows 10, internet connection, software portal access.

Instructions

  1. Navigate to software.villanova.edu and click on “Student software for PC”. Click on the link for Stata to begin the download.
  2. Open your downloads folder, right click on “SetupStata17” and click “Extract All.” A new window will open, don’t change any of the settings, then click “Extract”.

  1. Another new window will open. Double click the “SetupStata17” file. You may be prompted by a “User Account Control” window, click yes to allow Stata to install. You may need to enter your computer credentials.
  2. Next, a new window will open called “InstallShield Wizard”. Click ‘Next’, then accept the license agreement and click next again.
  3. On this screen, choose the version of Stata that you require and hit next.

  1. Continue clicking next until the next button changes to “Install”. Do not change any of the settings.
  2. Stata will now install on your PC. Once it is finished, you can click ‘Finish’ on the installer and it will close.
  3. To open Stata you will have to press the Windows key, type in “Stata” and click on it to start.
  4. When you open Stata for the first time, you will be prompted for an activation key. This can be found under the “Software Installation Keys” button on the software portal page.
