As part of ongoing efforts to enhance security and improve service reliability, Villanova University is updating the URLs associated with personal websites. These changes will take effect on March 4, 2025. This article provides details on these updates, required actions, and expected downtime.
What’s Changing?
The URLs for both public access and editing (WebDAV) will be updated as follows:
- Old Public URL: http://www##.homepage.villanova.edu/<firstname.lastname>
- New Public URL: https://homepage.villanova.edu/<firstname.lastname>
- Old Editing (WebDAV) URL: https://webdavusers.villanova.edu/##/<firstname.lastname>
- New Editing (WebDAV) URL: https://webdavusers.villanova.edu/<firstname.lastname>
These updates enhance security by enforcing HTTPS for all public and editing access.
Key Updates & Actions
- Secure Editing Access
- Website Redirection
- A redirect will be in place from the old public URL to the new one.
- Visitors will still be able to access your website using the old address, but we strongly recommend updating any published links to reflect the new URL.
Expected Downtime
During the transition on March 4, 2025, websites will experience intermittent downtime and unavailability. We will provide notifications to owners of Villanova personal websites at the start of the migration and upon successful completion.
