Mediasite: Basic Editing

Overview

This article provides guidance on editing a Mediasite video recording, commonly referred to as a "presentation," using the Web Editor. You can shorten or remove the beginning, middle, or end of your presentation before sharing it with anyone else. Common tasks performed by the web editor include: removing mistakes, silences, and pauses; shortening the presentation by trimming the beginning or end; removing specific sections of the presentation. Related terms include: edit Mediasite, cut video, delete part of a recording, trim the start or end, fix a lecture, and remove the intro.

1. Your edits cannot go into effect until you apply them to your presentation using the “Save Video” drop-down menu in the project management toolbar. There are three ways to save your edits:

  • Save Video to Current: This option will replace your original presentation with a newly edited version, without changing the link. If necessary, you can restore the original unedited presentation later.
  • Save Video to New: This option is not currently available for Mediasite CLC recordings; if you are trying to edit a Mediasite lecture recording and want to use "Save to New", please contact support@villanova.edu. This option is similar to using the "Save As" function in word processing software. This option enables you to create a new version of your presentation while keeping your original version intact. You will be prompted to confirm that you want to replace the existing presentation with the edited version. NOTE: the presentation link will change when you "Save to New".
  • Save Video to Existing: This option is very seldom used, but enables you to save your newly edited presentation to an existing blank Mediasite presentation.

2. After you choose a save method, the web editor will process your edits and save the new presentation. From the Video Save Jobs status in the top right corner of the window, you can watch the project move through a "Queued" state, to "Working", then finally a green "Complete" status. Please do not close the browser window until the edits have completed or your edits will not take effect.

3. After the web editor shows that your edits have been completed, you may close the browser tab and refresh your MyMediasite homepage: https://vums-web.villanova.edu/mediasite/mymediasite/

4. Click the “View” button next to the video to see how it will look to your audience with the new edits.
