Overview
This article offers guidance on adding fades and cross-dissolves to cuts in your Mediasite video recording using the Web Editor. Incorporating fades and dissolves can enhance the professionalism and polish of your presentations, while also smoothing out awkward transitions.
Prerequisite(s)
You must own a Mediasite video presentation that contains at least one cut. To learn more about editing your video content, please refer to our articles posted in the "Editing Video Content" section of our Knowledge Base.
Device Requirements
For the best experience using the Web Editor, please first confirm that your device meets the minimum requirements, outlined in "Mediasite: Web Editor"
Instructions
1. Log in to your MyMediasite account with your Villanova credentials: https://vums-web.villanova.edu/mediasite/mymediasite/
2. Select the presentation from your list of available video content by single-clicking on its title.
3. Next, select Edit Video from the right-hand navigation bar (see image below) to launch the web editor in a new browser tab.

4. Choose the method below that best fits your needs:
Add a fade-in to the beginning of your video
NOTE: Using a fade-in requires cutting off a small portion at the beginning of your recording. If your presentation content starts immediately when played, consider avoiding the fade-in effect.

To add a fade-in to the beginning of your presentation, press and hold the fade handle (the dot at the bottom of the timeline) and drag it to the left. The point at which you release the fade handle marks the start of the fade-in. To review your fade-in, play back the presentation from the beginning. If needed, adjust the fade handle again.
To remove a fade-in, press and hold the fade handle, then drag it back to the right to realign it with the start of the video.
Your edits will only take effect after you save them to your video presentation. Please refer to our knowledge article "Mediasite: Save your video edits" to learn how to apply your edits.
Add a fade-out to the end of your video
NOTE: Using a fade-out requires cutting off a small portion at the end of your recording. If your presentation content runs all the way to the end of the video when played, consider avoiding the fade-out effect.

To add a fade-out to the end of the presentation, simply follow the same steps for a fade-in (see above), but this time drag the fade handle to the right.
To remove a fade-out, press and hold the fade handle, then drag it back to the left to realign it with the start of the video.
Your edits will only take effect after you save them to your video presentation. Please refer to our knowledge article "Mediasite: Save your video edits" to learn how to apply your edits.
Add a fade or dissolve transition between two cuts

Utilize the same techniques mentioned above to include fade-ins or fade-outs in the middle of your presentation for smooth transitions between edits.
Apply a Dissolve instead of Fades: To change a transition to a dissolve (no dip to black; the two parts of the video briefly blend together), single-click the upside-down triangle above the cut and select Dissolve. To revert to a hard cut (no fades and no dissolves), select Cut.
Your edits will only take effect after you save them to your video presentation. Please refer to our knowledge article "Mediasite: Save your video edits" to learn how to apply your edits.
