Overview

What is it?

Macmillan Learning is a higher education publisher offering a suite of digital learning products centered around Achieve, their flagship online learning platform. Achieve combines an interactive eTextbook, adaptive quizzing (LearningCurve), auto-graded homework, goal-setting surveys, and instructor analytics into a single integrated course environment.

Macmillan integrates with Brightspace at Villanova. Faculty pair their Achieve course with their LMS course; students then access all Macmillan content through a link in the LMS without needing a separate login.

Who is it for?

Faculty: Build a customized Achieve course with your course's reading assignments, adaptive quizzes, homework, and assessments. Link the course to Brightspace to enable single sign-on and grade sync.

Students: Access the Macmillan eTextbook, complete homework and adaptive quizzing, and view performance feedback through the LMS course link. A Macmillan account or Inclusive Access code is required.

Access

Access Macmillan Achieve through the LMS course link (single sign-on from Brightspace). Faculty also access course management at macmillanlearning.com. Students access materials directly through the LTI link installed by the professor or through the link generated by the publisher and shared by the instructor. Students must use their school email address when registering at the publisher's website.

Authentication

Separate Macmillan account (macmillanlearning.com). First-time users link their LMS account to their Macmillan account through a one-time single sign-on process when they click the course link. After that initial linking, students access Macmillan directly through the LMS.

Availability

Available for courses where faculty have adopted a Macmillan Learning title with digital components. Contact your Macmillan Learning Consultant to set up an instructor account and request course access.

Getting Started / Quick Start

Faculty / Instructor Setup

Contact your Macmillan Learning Consultant to request an instructor account and sample course for your adopted title. Visit macmillanlearning.com/repfinder to locate your Macmillan representative.
Log in to Achieve and create your course (or copy a previous semester's course). Configure your learning path: select and arrange assignments, set due dates, and configure scoring settings.
In Brightspace access the Macmillan LTI connection integration by clicking Add Existing > More > Macmillan LTI 1.3 Content. Use Basic Integration (single LMS link, manual grade sync) or Deep Integration (deep-linked assignments, automatic grade sync) depending on your preference.
Link your LMS course to your Macmillan Achieve course using the integration pairing wizard. Confirm that grade columns are created in the LMS gradebook.
Share access instructions with students. Remind them to use the LMS link to log in, not to go directly to macmillanlearning.com, to ensure their LMS and Macmillan accounts are properly linked.

Student Setup

Click the Macmillan link in your LMS course. Create or log in to your Macmillan account to link it to your LMS account (one-time setup).
Complete assigned LearningCurve, homework, and reading assignments through the LMS course link. Grades sync to the LMS gradebook automatically.

Brightspace Integrations (LTIs)

D2L Brightspace LMS

D2L-Brightspace will be Villanova University's new learning management system (LMS) for all courses starting with the Summer 2026 semester and can be accessed at brightspace.villanova.edu. D2L-Brightspace allows faculty and students to access course content, complete learning activities such as assignments & quizzes, provide grades & feedback, as well as offer additional modern, innovative learning technologies to use in courses.
