Mediasite: Using Mediasite Analytics (View, Interpret, Export)

Overview

This article explains how to view, interpret, and export viewer analytics from a Mediasite presentation. Mediasite analytics provide detailed insights into audience engagement with your video content. This includes data on individual viewers (when available), heat maps showing viewer attention and trends, and downloadable reports for documentation or grading purposes. Common objectives include tracking viewership—such as the number of views and the duration of viewing—downloading viewer data, identifying who watched a lecture, determining the devices used to view the videos, and generating Excel reports on student engagement.

Instructions

NOTE: If your presentation has been made available to "Everyone," your viewers will all appear as "Anonymous" on your analytics report. If you must collect individual user names for attendance management, you must first either change the permission to "My Organization" or, for recordings that must be shared with non-Villanova users, please request Technology Services' assistance in setting up a registration page and password.

1. Login to your MyMediasite account via Villanova's single sign-on by entering your Villanova email and current password.

2. From your list of available Mediasite presentations, select the one you need to retrieve analytics for by single-clicking on its title.

3. Next, single-click the View Analytics link in the right-hand navigation bar.

4. After the Presentation Analytics page fully loads, you will see a graphical representation of the viewing trends for your presentation, including hot spots (most viewed parts of the presentation), a list of users who viewed it, what devices they used, and more information.

5. Use the Download Report dropdown menu in the top right-hand corner of the page to export an Excel spreadsheet containing all viewing data for this presentation. For assistance in interpreting your analytics data, a full list of terms and definitions can be found on Mediasite's official website here.

For best results, we recommend that you first open the Excel program on your device and then open your downloaded spreadsheet within it.
