Overview

This article will walk you through how to completely uninstall SPSS from a Windows Device. These steps should be followed if you wish to remove the software entirely, or if there is a license issue which requires a complete re-installation to resolve.

Requirements

Currently installed SPSS software.

Instructions

Note: Instructions for this process were taken from the IBM SPSS Website.

  1. Uninstall SPSS directly from Control Panel. Press the Windows key and type "control panel". Ensure it is set to "Small Icon" view, then select "Programs and Features":

  2. Select "IBM SPSS Statistics" from the available programs. Then, right click and select "uninstall" and follow the prompts.

  3. Reboot your PC.
  4. Navigate to the following file path: C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS\Statistics. Delete this folder. If you do not have this folder, proceed to step 5.
  5. Press the Windows key then type "regedit" and press enter.

Note: Please proceed with immense caution for step 6. Editing Registry Keys incorrectly can lead to catastrophic system failure. If you do not feel comfortable with this step, please contact UNIT for assistance.

  6. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | JavaSoft | Prefs | com | ibm |/S/P/S/S | /Statistics:

  7. Delete any folders that begin with /Subscription. Then, close Regedit.
  8. Next, navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\IBM\SPSS. If there is a folder named "COM", rename it to "OLDCOM".

  9. Reboot your device. IBM SPSS is now completely uninstalled from your device.
