Overview
BitLocker is the Villanova-approved disk encryption solution and is enabled by default on all Intune-enrolled University devices (devices that were part of the 2023 PC refresh and newer). BitLocker Recovery Keys are needed when devices cannot automatically unlock an encrypted drive when the device starts up.
Requirements
Windows PC that was part of the PC refresh in 2023 or newer, or has been re-imaged recently using the University's new device management solution (Intune).
How to Retrieve your BitLocker Recovery Key
If your device is not automatically able to unlock its operating system disk, you may see a screen similar to the following.

Asset owners can recover their own BitLocker Recovery Keys by browsing to the Microsoft My Account site from another Internet-connected device. Sign in with your Villanova credentials, including MFA, and locate the Devices item in the left side of the pane. Locate your device and click the View BitLocker Keys button.

A new window will appear on the right; click on the Show Recovery Key button for the Operating System Drive. You may see more than one item if you have more than one physical disk in your device.

Your recovery key will be displayed. Enter this 48-digit key in your device's BitLocker recovery window to unlock the disk. (Please note this screen has been modified to conceal the recovery key for this device.)
