We require that academic departments adhere to the standard time sequences as far as days and begin/end times in order to minimize room and scheduling complications and insure an adequate classroom inventory for all courses scheduled. A standard time sequence grid attached to assist you.
We also require that departments balance their offerings across the standard daytime sequences.
- If a department should divide the number of daytime courses they are offering by 14 (the number of standard daytime sequences), then round down to the nearest whole number to arrive at the maximum number of courses permitted in any one time sequence. Only after a department has filled up all of the daytime sequences with this number will they be able to add an additional course beyond that.
- If a department is offering 50 daytime courses, this represents an average of 3.57 courses over the 14 standard daytime sequences. Only after that department schedules 3 courses in every daytime sequence would they be able to add a fourth course.
The few exceptions to this method will be for those departments offering courses that require additional meeting times (math, sciences, languages, etc.), however, these departments will still be required to balance their course offerings across all standard daytime sequences.
Additionally, no more than 50% of a department's courses should be scheduled in peak time sequences (MWF 11:45, MW/F 1:55, MW 3:20, TR 10:00, TR 11:30, TR 1:00 and TR 2:30).
