1. What Changes for You
When Microsoft Authenticator is enabled on your account:
- You will no longer be sent directly into Duo after entering your username and password.
- Duo becomes an External Authentication Method, which adds one extra screen before you reach Duo.
- After this change, you can add Microsoft Authenticator on the My Sign‑Ins page.
2. What You Will See During Sign‑In
After you enter your Villanova username and password:
- You will see a message indicating you are being redirected to “Villanova MFA” (this is Duo).

- Click Continue to authenticate with Duo.
- You may also see “Sign in another way”. This link lets you choose another method, including Microsoft Authenticator if you have added it.
3. How to Set Up Microsoft Authenticator
When you are ready, please review the instructions to get started with Microsoft Authenticator.
4. The Hybrid Sign‑In Experience
Once you have both methods enabled:
If You Prefer Duo
- After entering your username and password when you log into your account, click Continue when prompted to redirect to “Villanova MFA.”
If You Prefer Microsoft Authenticator
