Overview
Beginning on Feb. 27, the University will start migrating existing users with personal home drives (N drives) to Microsoft OneDrive as the primary cloud file storage solution.
How will this change impact me?
During your designated migration period, please refrain from adding or modifying any files in personal home drives (N drives). Your migrated files will be placed in a folder named “HomeDrive_Migration” in the main folder of your OneDrive. Once your migration is confirmed to be completed, your personal home drive will be deactivated to prevent further use and ensure data integrity.
When will the migration occur?
During this migration, only individual users with personal home drives (N drives) utilizing file storage will be included. Below is a detailed schedule:
-
File migrations will begin in phases starting Feb. 27.
-
Users will receive three reminders before their scheduled migration date:
-
Two weeks before
-
One week before
-
Two days before
-
Migrations will take place on Fridays, beginning at 5 p.m.
-
Migrations are expected to be completed by 8 a.m. the following Monday.
While it is expected that the migration will be completed within this time period, it will not be considered finalized until you receive a confirmation email from Technology Services.
Why is Villanova making this change?
As part of Villanova’s ongoing cloud strategy and service rationalization efforts, and in support of the TechNova strategic plan announced last summer, Technology Services is working to consolidate our storage solutions to improve security, streamline collaboration, and lower costs. As a result, personal home drives (N drives) will no longer be supported as a storage option at Villanova.
