Browser: Using Profiles for Development/Testing

With browser profiles, you can keep all your browser data completely separate, including bookmarks, history, saved passwords, extensions, cookies, local storage, and active session tokens. Profiles are especially useful for development and testing because they create isolated environments without interfering with your main setup. In summary, profiles are ideal when you want to:

  • Stay logged in as different users at the same time.
  • Test login flows, SSO, and session behavior without clearing your browser.
  • Keep development, staging, and production environments separate.
  • Prevent credential mix-ups and cached asset conflicts.
  • Reproduce bugs and test changes without affecting your main browser.

Follow the instructions below to leverage profiles in Google Chrome. Instructions for other browsers are available in the reference reading section below:

Add a new profile

  • On your computer, open your browser.
  • At the top right, select Profile Profile and then Add Chrome profile ..
  • If you choose to sign in to Chrome with your Google Account, your profile name will automatically be your Account name.
  • Choose a name, photo, and color scheme.
  • If you choose to sign in to Chrome with your Google Account in this new profile, you'll be able to save your bookmarks, passwords, and other settings in your account and access them on your other devices where you’re signed in.


Switch to another profile

  • On your computer, open Chrome.
  • At the top right, select Profile Profile.
  • Choose the profile you want to switch to. 


Manage Chrome profiles
You can adjust your settings to display all Chrome profiles when you open a new browser session.

  • On your computer, open Chrome.
  • At the top right, select Profile Profile.
  • Under "Other Chrome profiles," select Manage Chrome profile .
  • At the bottom, check Show on startup.


Remove a profile
Important: After you remove a profile from Chrome, the profile's bookmarks, history, passwords, and other settings are erased from the computer.

  • On your computer, open Chrome.
  • At the top right, select Profile Profile.
  • Under "Other Chrome profiles," select Manage Chrome profiles .
  • Select the profile you want to remove.
  • At the top right of the profile, select More More and then Delete.
  • To confirm, select Delete.
