Academic Application: McGraw Hill

Summary

Learn how McGraw Hill Connect and SIMnet integrate with Brightspace so instructors can assign digital coursework and skills training while grades pass back automatically to the LMS gradebook.

Body

Overview

What is it?

McGraw Hill offers two primary digital courseware platforms used at Villanova:

McGraw Hill Connect: Connect is McGraw Hill's flagship digital learning platform for most disciplines (business, science, social sciences, humanities, and more). It delivers auto-graded homework, adaptive learning (SmartBook), eTextbooks, reporting, and LMS integration. Connect integrates with Brightspace.

McGraw Hill SIMnet: SIMnet is a specialized platform for Microsoft Office skills training (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.). It provides simulated Office environments where students practice and are assessed on real-world software tasks, with auto-grading and LMS gradebook sync.

Who is it for?

Faculty: Build courses on Connect or SIMnet, deploy assignments from the platform directly into Brightspace, and have grades sync automatically to the Brightspace gradebook. Use Connect's reporting tools to monitor student progress and identify at-risk students.

Students: Access Connect or SIMnet content through a Brightspace link. Complete homework, adaptive reading, and assessments. SIMnet students practice Microsoft Office tasks in a simulated application environment — no Office installation required.

Access

Access through a McGraw Hill link in your Brightspace course. For Connect: faculty set up courses at connect.mheducation.com. For SIMnet: simnetonline.com. Students access materials direct through the LTI link installed by the professor or through the link generated by the publisher and shared by the instructor. Students must use their school email address when registering at publisher's website.

Authentication

Separate McGraw Hill account required for faculty and students. First-time users create a McGraw Hill account and link it to their LMS account through a one-time SSO process when clicking the course link.
