Telephones: Campus Phone Services Maintenance Summary and Timeline

What is happening?

The morning of Sunday, October 13, starting at 6am, the campus phone system will be taken offline for a software upgrade. As a result, there will be a full 2-hour outage followed by multiple brief, intermittent disruptions for the 4 hours following the upgrade. This will impact all phone calls inbound, outbound, and internal to campus. Because these outages will vary in length and impact, the community should assume that phone services will be unavailable between 6am and 12pm.

When is this happening?

Start: At 6am on Sunday, October 13, 2024.
End: By 12pm on Sunday, October 13, 2024.

Impact

Campus telephone services (inbound, outbound, and internal campus phone calls)

Why is this happening?

As technology and laws changes, vendors release software updates to ensure their products continue to meet the changing compliance and usability needs of their customers.

The result of this upgrade will be a faster, more resilient campus network in support of the mission of Villanova, including:

  • Adds new tools to keep pace with evolving 911 compliance requirements.
  • Brings new features to improve the user experience of our phone system in the future.
  • Enables us to more easily transition as campus telephony needs evolve in the future.
  • Set us up for less disruptive phone service maintenances in the future.

What will the impact be during maintenance?

  • Campus telephone services will not work consistently during the maintenance window.
  • In the event you need to speak with Villanova's Department of Public Safety, please reach out to Dispatch by dialing 610-519-0524.
  • Members of the campus community are reminded that 911 is always the appropriate number to call for an emergency.
  • Members of the campus community are encouraged to carry your cell phone on you during this maintenance to complete phone calls.
