Classroom Lecture Capture (CLC): Getting Started

Mediasite is a lecture capture tool available to all Villanova faculty, staff, and students. Mediasite recordings can be posted on your LMS course page, embedded on a web page, or shared with your audience via a direct link. Recordings can be created with Hardware Recorders in select on-campus locations, the Mediasite Mosaic screen recording application, or an external media upload through your MyMediasite account.

A recording will consist of the room’s video (captured from a ceiling camera), audio (captured from podium and ceiling microphones), and any screen sharing displayed on the projector. Classroom lecture recordings automatically start and stop according to the course schedule in Banner and do not require manual input from the instructor to start or stop them.

The sign below is posted in classrooms that can record classroom lectures via Mediasite. Note: Signs without a Mediasite sticker only have Zoom recording available. If you do not want to relocate to one of our classrooms listed above and instead want to explore Zoom to record your classroom lectures, please visit Zoom on the UNIT Support Portal.

Per their program policy, all on-ground Law courses held in John F. Scarpa Hall are automatically recorded via Mediasite, and Law faculty do not need to opt in. If Law instructors wish to have their courses excluded from the automatic recording schedule, they must contact their Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

Step 1 of 3: Confirm your course is held in an eligible location

Confirm that your course can be recorded by referring to the current list of eligible classrooms here: List of Classroom Lecture Capture (CLC) Rooms

Step 2 of 3: Submit an opt-in request to record your course(s)

To record an entire semester of an on-ground course using Mediasite, the instructor designated as the "Primary" must submit an opt-in request at:

https://villanova.edu/recordmyclass

If your course does not appear on the opt-in site: (1) Your course may be held in a location ineligible for Mediasite recording, or (2) You may not be listed as the "Primary" instructor for the course in Banner.

Please refer to the information below when navigating the site:

	Single-click the camera icon next to a course to record it.
	Single-click the "Record All" button to record the complete list of available courses.
	Single-click the “X” button to cancel an opt-in request you submitted previously.

Would you like to share your recordings with your students? The visibility toggle (see image above) automatically makes your recordings "Viewable" after they are uploaded to Mediasite. To keep your recordings private, please leave this toggle as-is.

Step 3 of 3: Review your confirmation email

After you submit your request, you will receive an automated confirmation email from CIT@villanova.edu at your University email address. Please keep this email for future reference. It will include important information, such as your Mediasite channel link, the date your recordings will be automatically deleted, and other helpful resources for instructors.

Please contact CIT@villanova.edu as soon as possible if you do not receive a confirmation email within 12 hours of submitting an opt-in request.

Sharing your classroom lecture recordings can enhance your students’ overall learning experience in a variety of significant ways, including:

• Assist with learning support (e.g. missed lecture due to illness or emergency, non-native English speakers, accommodations students)
• Examination review
• Reinforce complex topics through repeated listening
• Allow students to engage more actively in class discussions rather than focusing on note-taking
• Supplement existing course materials

Even if you keep your lecture recordings private and don’t make them available to view, it is strongly recommended that you notify your students that their classes are recorded in an announcement on the first day of class and in writing in your course syllabus.
