Overview
Starting on Thursday, January 8, 2026, Blackboard is updating the landing page/navigation you see when you first log into Blackboard (i.e. Courses, Organizations, Activity, Calendar, etc...). These changes will improve your experience as you navigate Blackboard, providing larger screen space and reducing clicks.
Important: Your courses will not change - the course content, layout, and tools within your courses will remain the same.
What is Changing
- Courses Open Full Screen & Home Button: Courses will open full screen. Previously, courses slid over from the right. To return to the Blackboard landing page, faculty/students will click on a home icon instead of “X” icon.
Current
New - Upcoming on January 8 2026
- Course Switcher (new feature): You can quickly jump between recent and other courses straight from the course by clicking on "Courses" link within a course.
- Subtle changes to the New Navigation Menu
- Your name will now appear above the "Institution Page" link. Currently, it is below the "Institution Page" link.
- The "Sign Out" button is moved to the bottom of the menu.
