Registration: How to register for Corequisite or Linked courses

Corequisite Definition

A course that a student must take at the same time (concurrently) as another specific course. The purpose of a corequisite course is to connect two separate courses because the information provided in one is essential for success in the other, like a science lecture paired with its required lab. Credit is awarded for both courses separately and both courses will appear as separate entities on the official transcript.

Linked Course Definition

A linked course connects different parts of the same course. The course will appear on an official transcript as one unit, but there are multiple meeting times and combinations for which a student can enroll.

Students will follow the same steps when registering for courses that are linked or carry a co-requisite, although there are options for the pathways that the student can choose.

•   In the search bar of myNOVA, type in “Registration”
•   Select the Registration Tools task tile

Select Register, Add, or Drop Classes. Note: this button will only work AFTER your Registration Appointment.

Register Add or Drop Classes

Select the Term Open for Registration and enter the Registration PIN provided by your advisor (if applicable).

Students now have two options of how to proceed:

Option 1 - Register from a Plan

Select the Plans tab. You will see any and all saved Plans listed.

Plan tab

Students who prepare a registration Plan using the Plan Ahead tool can opt to "Add All" from their Plan at the time of registration, or individually Add CRNs. The student will need to have both CRNs in their Summary and then click "Submit" so that both CRNs are added simultaneously.

If both courses have no restrictions, time conflicts, and the capacity for students to be enrolled, then both courses will be added to the student schedule simultaneously and no error message will occur.

Option 2 - Add CRN

Students who want to add courses individually must enter the individual Course Registration Number (CRN) for each course. The student should:

1. Click on "Add Another CRN"

Adding a CRN

2. Enter the CRNs of both courses or the CRNs for the linked courses

3. Click "Add to Summary"

4. Click "Submit" in the Summary panel (bottom right section of the "Register for Classes" screen).
