Overview
This article explains how to create a grade item and connect it to the Brightspace grade book.
Instructions
Navigate to Manage Grades
- Access the "Manage Grades" page in your course's gradebook.
Create a New Grade Item
- Click "New" and select "Item" from the dropdown menu.
Select Grade Item Type
- Choose a grade item type for the new item. Options include traditional numeric items and alternative types.
- For formative assessments, consider using a "Selectbox" grade item.
- To determine a learner's overall grade based on specific items, use a "Calculated" grade item.
- In this example, select "Numeric." Note: Use numeric grade items if you want to associate the item with a course activity.
Enter Grade Item Details
- Enter a name for the grade item. This name will display in your gradebook.
- If the grade item will be part of a category in your gradebook, select the category from the drop-down list.
Set Maximum Points
- Enter the maximum points you want to assign to the grade item in the grading section.
- The appearance of this section varies depending on the grading system used:
- Weighted Grading System:
- Assign the maximum number of points learners can achieve on the item.
- Enter the desired weight you want the grade item to contribute to its category in the "Weight" field.
- Note: If you previously chose to distribute weight evenly across grade items when creating the category, the weight field will adjust automatically to reflect the addition of a new grade item.
Save the Grade Item
- Click "Save and Close" to finalize and add the new grade item to your gradebook.
