Computer Decommissioning and Recycling

Description

Select Submit a Pickup Request to have your old computer(s) picked up and properly decommissioned by UNIT. Equipment that does not store data on a hard drive, like computer peripherals, such as computer keyboards and monitors, should be recycled via Villanova Facilities Management (FMO).

UNIT partners with PCs for People to decommission Villanova-owned computers. PCs for People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It is their mission to promote digital inclusion by making technology accessible and affordable for low-income families. With a store-front in North Philadelphia, PCs for People serves members of the Philadelphia community directly. If a computer does not meet their requirements for refurbishing, then they will sustainability and securely dispose of the equipment. 

Pickup

UNIT will pickup your computer(s) and coordinate a pickup with PCs for People.  

Drive and Asset Tag Removal

Upon arrival at PCs for People's warehouse, computers are unloaded, and drives and asset tags removed.

Data Destruction

All drives received by PCs for People are wiped and data properly sanitized according to NAID AAA standards. PCs for People is NAID AAA certified, the highest certification for data destruction available.

Refurbishing and Recycling

If a computer cannot be refurbished, it is recycled according to R2 policies. PCs for People has the R2 certification, the leading certification standard in the recycling industry. 

Reporting

UNIT receives a data sanitation log for every device and an annual community and environmental impact report that displays how our devices made a difference.
