Microsoft Authenticator: Number Matching

Number matching is a multi-factor authentication (MFA) technique that requires users to type a specific two-digit code displayed on the login screen into their authenticator app to verify a login attempt. This method enhances security by preventing accidental approvals of requests in MFA fatigue attacks, where cyber criminals bombard users with notifications hoping they will accidentally approve one.

Number Matching

1. Navigate to your desired Villanova application, such as outlook.villanova.edu

2. Enter your login credentials. A two-digit code will appear on your screen. For your convenience, you can check the box for "Don't ask again for 30 days" to delay the next MFA prompt until that time. Think of it like a snooze button!

3. Open the Microsoft Authenticator App and enter the matching number to verify your login.
