Mediasite: Enable your presentation for download

Overview

Mediasite allows presentation owners to generate downloadable copies of their recordings for offline viewing or long-term retention. You can enable:

  • Vodcast (.MP4): A composite video version of your presentation (see section below for details)
  • Podcast (.MP3): An audio-only version of your presentation

Downloading a copy of important recordings is recommended to retain content beyond the University's data retention period.

Before You Begin

Before enabling downloads for your presentation, be aware of the following:

  • You Must Be the Presentation Owner: Only the owner of a Mediasite presentation can enable Podcast and Vodcast downloads. If you do not own the presentation, you will not see the required settings.
  • Download Files Are Not Created Automatically: Checking the Podcast or Vodcast options starts a processing job. Download files may not be immediately available, especially for longer and/or more graphically complex presentations.
  • Processing Time Varies: The time required to generate downloadable files depends on:
    • Presentation length
    • Number of slides and graphics
    • Current Mediasite server workload
  • Bulk Downloads Are Not Supported: Mediasite does not provide a method to download multiple presentations at once. Each presentation must be processed and downloaded individually.
  • Vodcasts Display as a Composite Video: If your presentation contains both screen sharing and camera video, the downloaded MP4 will combine those feeds into a single side-by-side video. Interactive switching between views is only available when viewing the presentation within Mediasite.
