Overview
This article explains the enrollment options available when creating or managing Brightspace groups.
Instructions
Open the Groups Tool
- Click on "More" in your course's blue top navigation bar, then select "Groups."
Create a New Group Set
- Click on the option to create a new group set.
Select an Enrollment Type
- Number of Groups, No Auto Enrollments:
- Use when you know the number of groups and want to manually assign learners.
- Example: Group research projects with specific topics.
- Groups of Number:
- Use to create the minimum number of groups needed for a specified group size.
- You can choose between automatic or manual enrollment, randomized or alphabetical order.
- Example: Lab sessions with a specific number of students per lab.
- Number of Groups:
- Use when you know the number of groups and want the system to enroll learners.
- Learners can be added using a brick lane algorithm or manually without auto-enrollment.
- Example: Randomly created groups for an observatory trip.
- Groups of Number, Self Enrollment:
- Use to automatically create groups based on size, allowing learners to self-enroll.
- Example: Group presentations where learners choose their own group.
- Number of Groups, Self Enrollment:
- Use to create a specified number of groups that learners can choose to join.
- Example: Cumulative assignments with multiple topic choices.
- Number of Groups, Capacity of Number, Self Enrollment:
- Use to create a specified number of groups with a set maximum enrollment per group.
- Example: Group presentations with a cap on the number of members per group.
- Single User Member-Specific Group:
- Use to create a private space for each learner, typically for journaling or individualized work.
- Example: Individual research projects with private journals.
Configure Group Options
- After selecting the enrollment type, configure additional options as required, such as group names, auto-enrollment settings, and other relevant parameters.
Save and Create Groups
- Review your settings and confirm to create the groups.
Assign or Allow Student Enrollment
- Depending on the enrollment type, either manually assign students to groups or allow them to enroll themselves.
