STAAD Installation Instructions

Overview: This document will walk you through the download and installation process of the Bentley statistics software STAAD.

Note: STAAD will not directly operate on macOS.

Requirements: PC, Activation Key (included), web browser, internet access

Steps

Navigate to the Engineering Portal at egrportal.villanova.edu and login.

Expand ‘Software Download Links’ and click ‘Download’ for STAAD.

The software will automatically begin downloading and should take 2-5 minutes depending on your internet speed.

Once finished downloading, open the Downloads folder in File Explorer to locate the .zip folder, which is labeled with the software name.

Right-click on the folder and select ‘Extract All…’ then click ‘Extract’ to confirm. This should look something like the below image.

The extracted files will be placed in a folder with the same name as the .zip folder.

Once the contents are extracted, navigate to the unzipped folder (this will appear as a normal folder icon without a zipper). Inside of this folder, there is another folder by the same name. Open this folder.

The first part of this installation will cover the Structural Synchronizer V8i component of STAAD.

First double-click to run the dependency application, called ‘ssync081109130en-dependency’ or ‘ssync081109130en-dependency.exe’

It may take 15-30 seconds to load. The installer will open by itself as shown below. Unless you intend to place the file in a different location, leave the file path unchanged. Next, click ‘OK’.

You will be prompted to install all components necessary for the software. Click ‘Install’

An additional window will open with the setup wizard.

  • Click ‘Next’.
  • Check the box to accept the license agreement, then click ‘Next’ again.
  • You will be shown the destination folder locations for the installation. Only change these if you intend to install in a different location, otherwise do not alter them.
  • Click ‘Next’.
  • Ensure only ‘Start Menu’ and ‘Desktop’ are configured as shortcuts, then click ‘Next’.
  • Select the ‘Typical’ installation option.
  • Click ‘Install’ to confirm.

The setup wizard will close automatically. Return to the original installer window, where you will see the installer go through and download each required component. This will look something like the picture shown below.

Pay attention to whether the installer issues an error for any components.

  • You will likely receive Error: = 3010 for the Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 components as shown in the picture above. If you don’t receive this, skip the bulleted steps below and proceed to step 14.
  • If you receive this error, you must manually install the component. Navigate to Microsoft’s website to download this component at: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5783

  • Click to download the component. Open the SQL Server .exe file by selecting it in your browser downloads or double-clicking on the file in your Downloads folder.
  • Click ‘Yes’ to continue.
  • Enter the following file path for installation: C:\BentleyDownloads\IsmEngine_08.11.09.130.
  • You may be asked to overwrite the current files in this folder. Click ‘Yes’ if prompted.
  • The files will be extracted automatically. Return to the original STAAD installer.

You will be required to restart your computer to completely install several of the components. Ensure you save and close any open documents or work you have open, then click ‘Restart’ in the dialog box as shown below.

After restarting, the components will have completed installation automatically.

The second part of this installation covers the Win32 Cabinet Self-Extractor to setup STAAD

You will be asked to allow the app to make changes to your device. Click ‘Yes,’ then click ‘Continue’ if prompted.

The installer will automatically open.

Uncheck the box that says ‘Install companion products (StrucLink & PipeLink)’

Click ‘Install’ to set up the required software packages, as shown below.

An installation wizard will appear. Click ‘Next’

Accept the terms of the license agreement and then click ‘Next’ again

Only change the location of the destination folder if you intend to. Otherwise, keep the default location and click ‘Next’ again.
