Outlook: Add an Email Address to the Safe Senders List

Tags Outlook

By using Microsoft's Office 365 features, UNIT is able to prevent messages, such as phishing or spam, from being delivered to your email inbox. This helps minimize malicious phishing attacks from being delivered as well as spam from cluttering an inbox. However, occasionally a legitimate email message may be incorrectly identified as spam and delivered to the Junk Mail Folder. If an email message is incorrectly sent to your Junk Mail Folder, click on Report Message and select Not Junk to notify Microsoft and prevent this from occurring again in the future.

If an email message continues to be sent incorrectly to your Junk Mail Folder, is Quarantined, or incorrectly prefixed as an [EXTERNAL] message, UNIT will need the headers of original email message to troubleshoot. To have UNIT review this, please follow the instructions in Reporting Emails Misdirected to Junk or Quarantine.

Please note that you are assuming a risk by adding an email address to your Safe Senders List because it may allow malicious mail into your inbox from that sending email address. Extra caution should be used when accessing any links or attachments from an email address in the Safe Senders List because this setting bypasses most of the primary controls that Microsoft has to prevent phishing and malware from being delivered to your inbox.

If you are certain this is a safe sender and will use additional caution and would like to add an email address to the Safe Senders List, please follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to Outlook at https://outlook.villanova.edu
