Part of Term
Overview
A Part of Term is a defined segment within an academic term with its own start and end dates, deadlines, and meeting schedule. Parts of Term support full-semester courses as well as shorter sessions and modules that run at a different length or cadence.
Parts of Term are established and maintained by the Office of the Registrar in alignment with the official academic calendar and applicable program, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
What Part of Term Determines
Best Practices
Changing a Part of Term
Before registration opens: Meeting patterns, instructor assignments, and enrollment information may need to be removed before the Part of Term can be updated.
After registration begins: Changes may affect enrolled students and academic records. Contact Academic Scheduling before proceeding.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know which Part of Term to use?
Use the official Part of Term calendar and select the code assigned to the academic program and course format.
Can I create custom Part of Term dates?
No. Course sections must follow approved institutional calendars and established Part of Term dates.
Can a Part of Term be changed after students register?
A change may be possible, but it requires review and coordination because enrolled students and academic records may be affected.
Need Help?
If you are unsure which Part of Term should be assigned to a course, contact Academic Scheduling before making changes to the section.
Important: Codes, programs, and dates may vary by semester and academic year. Always consult the official Part of Term calendar for the current scheduling cycle.
