Will I be able to search and report on course attributes?
Yes. Coursedog will provide increased visibility into course attributes by allowing department schedulers to use filtering and reporting tools to identify course that carry specific attributes. There is always an opportunity for departments to explore campus wide tools including Argos if more data is required.
Can the system help identify scheduling conflicts or coordination opportunities across departments?
Yes. One of Coursedog's goals is to provide greater visibility across the schedule, making it easier to identify conflicts and opportunities for collaboration. There will be warning messaging in place when departments create room and faculty conflicts along with reporting tools to help confirm what conflicts are still outstanding.
Will it be possible to identify courses that are missing attributes?
Coursedog will improve visibility into course data, and reporting tools will continue to help departments review and maintain accurate information.
Scheduling & Academic Planning
Will Spring 2027 still use the current scheduling process?
Yes. Spring 2027 is expected to be the final scheduling cycle completed using our current process.
Can departments plan courses on multi-year cycles, such as electives offered every other year?
We are exploring ways to support longer-term planning and will share more information as implementation progresses. The future state will roll courses from the previous like term so departments that alternate courses every other year can utilize the historical data to help guide with building their schedule.
How will the system address faculty preferences for popular meeting patterns and time slots?
Coursedog will provide additional planning tools, but departments will continue to balance scheduling preferences and academic needs. In order to create a robust academic schedule that effectively optimizes classroom usage throughout the day, departments will need to evenly distribute their offerings in order for students to have the most opportunities for registration.
Integrations & Systems
Will Coursedog integrate with VenueVU and other campus systems?
Coursedog will have a bi-directional transfer with Banner which remains the university’s system of record. Once the classrooms are assigned in Coursedog, they will publish to Banner than import into VenueVU for a seamless and transparent transition.
How will Coursedog work alongside Banner and Argos?
Banner will remain the university's system of record, Argos will continue to support reporting, and Coursedog will enhance scheduling and planning workflows.
Enrollment Management
Will department schedulers have access to reserved seating functionality?
Access, permissions, and workflows for reserved seating are currently being evaluated and will be communicated before go-live.
Will student permissions, overrides, and approval processes be incorporated into the system?
We are reviewing opportunities to streamline approval workflows and will provide updates as decisions are finalized.
Student Experience
How might Coursedog impact students?
The goal is to create a more transparent, efficient scheduling experience that supports academic planning and student success. The future state of academic scheduling is built on collaboration amongst departments with the goal for creating an opportunity for students to take courses without conflicts amongst major requirements.
Will it be easier to make updates to course information after registration begins?
Coursedog offers greater flexibility, though existing university policies will continue to guide schedule and course changes. Departments will have access to non-critical fields including Course titles, enrollment limits, attributes and restrictions which are often in demand during and after the registration process.
Training & Support
Do I need to attend every training session this summer?
No. We encourage schedulers to attend each session as the topics will evolve as we continue to complete implementation tasks and prepare for go live with the product. . Additional resources and support will be available throughout the implementation.
Where can I find additional information and resources?
Project updates, training materials, and future communications will be shared throughout the implementation process. Our team is working on a Coursedog Knowledge base for schedulers to rely on when working on their schedule.
