SCHEDULES: Ignore Double Bookings

Overview

When creating academic schedules, sometimes conflicts arise. This article provides insight on how to resolve conflicts such as a double-booked room or instructor.

Description

Coursedog automatically checks the academic schedule for scheduling conflicts. Two common conflicts are:

  • Double Booked Instructor: An instructor is assigned to teach two course sections that meet on the same day and time.

  • Double Booked Room: Two course sections are assigned to the same room on the same day and time.

Important: Do not ignore a conflict simply to remove the warning. If the courses are not intended to meet together, the instructor, meeting pattern, or room assignment should be corrected.

The following errors/warnings will appear at the top of the section template:

When You Should NOT Ignore a Conflict

Do not ignore a double-booking warning if:

  • The instructor is actually expected to teach two separate classes simultaneously.

  • Two unrelated courses were accidentally assigned the same classroom.

  • The meeting day or time is incorrect.

  • The room assignment needs to be changed.

  • You are unsure why the conflict exists.
