Overview
This article provides guidance on cutting sections out of a Mediasite video recording in the Web Editor. Common use-cases for this type of edit include: removing a break/luncheon portion of an event recording, removing sensitive content, and creating shorter clips from longer videos using the "Save to New" feature.
Device Requirements
For the best experience using the Web Editor, please first confirm that your device meets the minimum requirements, outlined in our knowledge article "Mediasite: Web Editor".
Instructions
1. Log into your MyMediasite account: https://vums-web.villanova.edu/mediasite/mymediasite/
2. Select the Mediasite presentation you want to edit by clicking its title or thumbnail image.
3. Select Edit Video from the right-hand navigation bar to launch the web editor in a new browser tab.
4. Position the web editor cursor (#3) at the point where you want the cut section to start. You can do this by playing your presentation and pausing it at the desired moment (#1). Alternatively, click anywhere along the numbered timeline (#2), and the web editor cursor will jump to that section of the presentation.
5. Next, press and hold the timeline cursor and drag it to the right (#4). When you release the cursor, the section to be cut will be highlighted in light blue (#5). Don't anywhere else until you proceed to Step 6, or your selection will be lost.
6. Click on the Cut icon on the timeline toolbar to execute the cut (see image below). If needed, adjust the cut handles on either side of the cut.
7. To remove an individual cut you made, single-click on the upside-down triangle above the cut, then select Delete (see image below). If you need to restore an earlier version of your presentation, please refer to our Knowledge Article, "Mediasite: Restore a previous version of your video".
Known Issues and Troubleshooting
- Minimum device requirements: To get the best web editor experience, your device must meet the minimum requirements outlined in our knowledge article "Mediasite: Web Editor".
- Improve precision: You can use the magnifying glass icon in the bottom left corner of the web editor to zoom in and out of the timeline for fine-tuning your edits.
- Undo mistakes: To revert your most recent change, click the undo icon on the blue toolbar at the top of the window (see image below). If you need to roll back multiple changes, please refer to our knowledge article, "Mediasite: Restore a previous version of your video".
