Brightspace: Review Turnitin Similarity and AI Writing Reports

Overview

This article explains how instructors can open and review Turnitin reporting for student submissions in Brightspace. Similarity Reports highlight matched text and sources, and AI writing reporting provides additional analysis of submissions.

Instructions

View the Similarity Report

  1. Open your Brightspace course.
  2. Navigate to the Turnitin-enabled assignment.
  3. Open the assignment submissions area or inbox for that assignment.
  4. Locate the student submission.
  5. Click the Similarity Score or colored percentage to open the Turnitin report.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  6. This will open up the Feedback Studio for this submissionUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  7. To review the matched text, click on the match score in the Match Overview section of Feedback Studio.
  8. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)Select any item in the list to go to that area of the submission and get more information on the matching text.

Note: A similarity percentage is not, by itself, a finding of plagiarism. Properly cited quotations, references, and common phrases can increase the score.

View the AI Writing Report

  1. Open the student's Turnitin report.
  2. Locate the AI writing indicator or tab in the report interface.
  3. Select the AI writing area on the right-hand side to view the full AI Writing Report.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  4. The AI Writing report will appear in a separate window.
  5. Review the highlighted sections and report details carefully.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  6. Use the report as one source of information in a broader academic conversation.

Note: Turnitin AI writing detection is probabilistic and should not be used as the only basis for disciplinary action.
