Overview
Create a Mediasite presentation by uploading a locally saved video file recorded on your mobile device, via Zoom, or from another program.
Technical Requirements
- You must be a current Villanova user with an active Mediasite account. If you haven't created an account yet, refer to "Mediasite: Create your account".
- Confirm you are uploading a compatible file type by referring to "Mediasite: Supported Video Files for Uploading to MyMediasite".
- The video file you want to upload must be saved locally to your device first. Transferring videos to Mediasite from the Zoom cloud, OneDrive, Dropbox, or SharePoint is not permitted.
Instructions
1. Log in to your MyMediasite account with your Villanova credentials: https://vums-web.villanova.edu/mediasite/mymediasite/
2. Select Add Presentation from the left-hand menu.

3. You will be redirected to the Add Presentation page. Select Choose File from the list of choices provided.

4. You will be prompted to select the video file that you want to upload from your device. You can only upload one file at a time.
Note for Zoom uploads: When uploading a Zoom recording to MyMediasite, make sure to select the .MP4 file with "video" in its file name.
5. You will be prompted to select the video file that you want to upload from your device. Please review the scenarios below to ensure you're following the correct upload method for your device:
- iPhone: After selecting "Choose File", you will be prompted to select an existing video file saved to your mobile device in "Photo Library" or "Library" (varies by device)
- Android: After selecting "Choose File", you will be prompted to select an existing video file saved to your mobile device in "Gallery" or "Videos" (varies by device)
- Locally saved Zoom recording on an iOS/Apple device: After selecting "Choose File", you will be prompted to select an existing video file saved to your iOS device under /Users/[Username]/Documents/Zoom. Be sure you're selecting the .MP4 file with video at the beginning of its file name.
- Locally saved Zoom recording on a Windows device: After selecting "Choose File", you will be prompted to select an existing video file saved to your Windows device under C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\Zoom. Be sure you're selecting the .MP4 file with video at the beginning of its file name.
- Zoom recording saved to the Cloud: First, you must download your cloud recording from https://villanova.zoom.us/recording/ to your device. Transferring videos to Mediasite from the Zoom cloud, OneDrive, Dropbox, or SharePoint is not permitted. After you download the video to your device, use the appropriate method above to upload it to Mediasite, depending on your device type.
6. When the New Presentation Details pop-up window appears, enter a title for your video then click the blue Create Presentation button.

7. Your video will now begin uploading to Mediasite. Please keep your browser tab open while the upload is in progress, or it will fail.

7. After the upload completes, your video will move on to processing. This begins with a Queued for Processing stage, followed by a Currently Working stage (see images below). Videos with heavy graphics or very long durations require extra processing time. You can keep working in another tab or window while this process completes.

8. You may need to refresh your browser window after the Currently Working stage to view your finished video. It will be set to private ("Only Me"), and no one will be able to access your video until it's unlocked.
For assistance unlocking your presentation and sharing it with others, please see our knowledge article titled "Mediasite: Share a presentation".
Known Issues & Troubleshooting
- iOS recordings: The iPhone often records in 4K, which produces an extremely large video file. These files must be compressed before they will be accepted by Mediasite. For more information, please see the "Share your movie on the web" section on Apple's website here. Please set your iPhone's recording format to HD 30 fps before recording. (directions).
- "The Media Cannot Be Transcoded" Error Message: This error message indicates that Mediasite couldn't convert your uploaded video into a compatible streaming format. This failure can occur due to issues with the source file, server capacity, and/or system backlog. If you see this error after trying to upload an iPhone recording, please see the bullet above.

- Audio track required: The video you upload must contain an audio stream, even if it's silence; video files without an audio stream will fail to process.
- Working with narrated PowerPoints: Narrated PowerPoint presentations must be exported as videos before they can be uploaded to Mediasite (official Microsoft directions).
- Stable Internet: If you're using Wi-Fi and your uploads keep failing, try re-uploading them when you have access to a wired connection.
- Switch Browsers: If your uploads continue to fail, try the upload in a different browser. Chrome and Firefox are preferred browsers for uploading content. MyMediasite operates entirely in the cloud, so make sure your browser is up to date (directions) or you may experience issues.
