Apporto vDesktop: Getting Started

In a web browser (Chrome recommended), browse to https://villanova.apporto.com.  Enter your Villanova userID and password. 

 

Using Microsoft365 (Office) Apps 

The first time you use an Office app, such as Word or Excel, you will need to sign in with your Villanova account.  Upon opening one of these apps, click the Sign In button. 

 

Enter your Villanova user ID and click Next. 

Enter your password and perform any necessary multi-factor authentication if necessary.  You will now be able to run any of the Microsoft365 Apps.  Please note signing into these apps via Apporto will not count against your Office activation limit. 

Please note the Outlook client is not installed.  To access your Villanova email, open webmail. 

Using Apporto’s Cloud Mounter solution, you can seamlessly map a drive to your OneDrive folder within your desktop session.  This will allow you to easily save documents directly to OneDrive from any application. 

To connect your OneDrive folder, log in to one of the virtual desktops and run the Cloud Mounter application from the desktop. Click the OneDrive option under “Start a New Connection.”  Please note the options presented to you may look different than the example below. 

 

Give the mapping a name and check the box to connect at login/startup, then click Connect Now. 

 

When the Microsoft sign in window appears, enter your Villanova user ID and click Next. 

 

Enter your password and perform any necessary multi-factor authentication if necessary.  Your OneDrive contents will open within Windows Explorer.  You can now save documents directly to any of your OneDrive folders. 

Your connection to OneDrive will persist through multiple Apporto sessions.  

To save a document to your personal device from within your Apporto session, click the “Download” button in the Apporto toolbar. 

 

The File Download window will open.  Select the file you want save and click Download.  In this example, a Word document from the Desktop folder is being saved. 

 

The file will automatically download to the Downloads folder on both a Windows PC and macOS device.  

Printing to vPrint (Pharos) is available within Apporto.  To print, select the “VPrint on PHAROSAPP” from within the application you’d like to print from.  In the example below, Microsoft Word is being used. 

 

When prompted, enter your Villanova username. 

 

Ending your Virtual Desktop or Application Session 

Properly ending your virtual desktop or application session ensures resources and concurrent usage runs effectively.  To end your virtual desktop session, right-click the Windows Start icon and choose Sign Out.  Alternatively, you can click the Windows Start icon and choose the Profile icon with your name, then Sign Out.  You can also click the Windows Start menu and choose Power/Disconnect.  This will leave your session in a disconnected state for 1 hour, after which your session will be automatically terminated and any documents that have not been saved will be lost. 

Any idle sessions that last longer than 1 hour will also be terminated.
