WeVideo: AI-Generated Interactions

Overview

This article offers guidance on using AI-generated interactions in WeVideo to efficiently create engaging, interactive video assignments. With the help of AI, you can automatically generate questions based on your video’s transcript, align them with learning objectives using Bloom’s Taxonomy, and customize them to suit your instructional goals. AI-generated interactions simplify the creation process by automatically analyzing your video content and suggesting meaningful engagement points.

Requirements

  • You need either a .VTT or .SRT captioning file for the Mediasite presentation where you will be adding AI-generated interactions.
  • Please see the device requirements listed in our knowledge article, "WeVideo: Overview".
  • You must have an active WeVideo account
  • You must have an active Mediasite account with content created and available to use
  • If prompted, please have your mobile device handy for a Duo push notification during Villanova single sign-on. For more details, please refer to "Duo: Getting Started".

Instructions

1. Log in to your WeVideo account using the Microsoft Office365 button: https://www.wevideo.com/sign-in

2. Navigate to the Interactive Videos area.

3. Click the Create New Interactive Video button. The wording of this button may be slightly different if you're making your first interactive video.

4. For Video Source, select Mediasite, then single-click on the title of the presentation you want to use.

5. After the video loads, select the Customize button.

6. Drag and drop your .VTT or .SRT captioning file into the designated area. Alternatively, click the area to open a dialog box that lets you select a captioning file from your local device. When your captions upload and the file name appears on screen, click the Done button.

7. From within the interactions editor page, click the Generate Interactions button.

8. From the Generate Interactions pop-up window, choose how you want AI to create interactions:

  • Time: Disperse the questions randomly throughout the entire video, or group them at a specific time you indicate
  • Number of Questions: You can add up to 20 questions. If this box is left blank, a random number of questions will be generated based on the length of the video
  • Complexity & Interaction Type: Choose a Bloom’s Taxonomy level to align questions with your learning objectives and the question type(s) you want AI to generate, including: MCQ, Check All That Apply, Free Response, and Fill In The Blank
  • Educator Context (optional): Enter the additional prompts (teaching goals, student level, etc.) to guide the AI interaction generation

📌 Note: AI uses transcript context and selected learning level to tailor question difficulty and depth. It can also generate questions based on what's onscreen visually.

9. After the AI interactions have finished processing, configure each as needed. Depending on the interaction type, you may be able to:

  • Add instructional text or insert hyperlinks and images using the rich text editor
  • Add complex equations, symbols, and formulas (accessed via the fx icon in rich text editor)
  • Choose where you want the interaction to be displayed onscreen (it will appear on the left Sidebar by default)
  • Control whether to pause or continue the video for student engagement. By adding an end time to the interaction, learners will have a limited amount of time to respond before the assessment progresses.

Need to refine the AI interactions you initially generated? Click on Enhance with AI to do any of the following:

  • Edit the prompt to better target content
  • Adjust complexity or learning level
  • Replace with a similar AI-generated option
  • Translate into another language

10. When you're satisfied with your questions, click the Review tab, then Preview to review your interactive video and ensure all questions and timings function correctly.

⚠️ Warning: Always review AI-generated content for accuracy and alignment with course objectives before assigning to students.

9. Update the Privacy setting to either "Interactive video is public" or "Interactive video is only visible to members of your school/site", depending on your intended audience. Click Save Changes when you're done.

10. After you see the green notification confirming your changes are saved, you can click Save and Exit.

11. Refer to the knowledge article, "WeVideo: Add WeVideo Content to Brightspace" to assign your interactive video assignment to your students in Brightspace.

Known Issues & Troubleshooting

AI interactions not generating: Ensure your video includes a transcript or captions.

Questions are too simple or too complex: Adjust the selected Bloom’s Taxonomy level, or regenerate questions with updated settings.

AI-generated content is inaccurate: Edit the prompt or manually revise the question. Confirm transcript accuracy, as AI relies on this content.
